The SOLD Project’s FREEDOM Project is a four-part prevention program that focuses on keeping children out of Thailand’s infamous sex industry. The FREEDOM Project is located in the poverty-stricken villages in northern Thailand that are known as high-risk areas and breeding grounds for children who fall into prostitution. Children in these areas are often forced to drop out of school and sent to the city to work. Without proper education, their options are few and they are easily lured into the sex industry.
Twice a year, we host a parent meeting to update scholarship families on recent news, distribute the scholarships, help the kids write letters to sponsors, and hear from guest speakers.
This year, we added something new: an anonymous survey for the parents. When asked about trafficking in their village:
82% off all the parents said they believed their child was at risk of being sexually exploited.
85% shared that education, awareness, mentorship, and resources were the key to prevention.
15% believed prevention wasn’t possible at all.

Dear Ms. Flynn,
Hello. My name is Sam Eschenbrenner and I am the advocacy director for the New York State Chapter of the Not For Sale Campaign. I came across your blog on the Polaris Project’s blog map, and find your work and experience very interesting and inspiring. I will be sure to check out your blog in more detail, but I would also love to learn more about your interest in this issue beyond your experience with the SOLD project. Also, if you are interested, I would love to introduce you to other abolitionists in the NYC area, both individuals and organizations.
Thank you very much!
Sam Eschenbrenner

Hi Sam,
Thanks so much for your comment and for checking out my blog! I am a huge fan of Not for Sale’s work having read your organizations book (also a huge fan of Polaris Project!). I volunteered with LOVE146 in NYC before my move to Thailand and am still very interested in continuing to work in the field of advocacy and abolition. I will certainly be in touch!
Thanks again,
Deirdre
